No — and establishing that is most of what this record is for.
The origin point usually given for gourmet California-style pizza is Wolfgang Puck and Ed LaDou at the original Spago, 1982. Checked directly: that address, 8795 Sunset Boulevard, is in West Hollywood, a separate incorporated city. Spago later moved to Beverly Hills, also outside the boundary. California Pizza Kitchen's first location was Beverly Hills too. Under this guide's boundary rule, Los Angeles does not get to claim the lineage that its name is attached to everywhere else.
That leaves two records, and this guide would rather publish two honest records than annex a suburb to improve a city's case. The evidence for West Hollywood and Beverly Hills is written up in the research notes for whoever opens those cities, and it is not moved here.
Los Angeles is thin in this edition and the thinness is partly a research artefact — the pass that built it ran out of search budget mid-city, and Masa of Echo Park and Jon & Vinny's were never opened. That is stated so the number is not mistaken for a verdict.

The city of Los Angeles. Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, Culver City and Pasadena are separate municipalities and are not Los Angeles.
William Joo and his wife Jennifer So opened this Pico-Robertson storefront in 2022 practising a Tokyo-style pizza: a Neapolitan foundation reworked through the Nakameguro school Susumu Kakinuma founded at Seirinkan in 2007, plus a signature "salt-punch" technique of sprinkling salt into the oven as the pie bakes. Joo describes constantly checking his dough's pH and adjusting flour and hydration by hand.
Chef-owners Aaron Lindell and Hannah Ziskin, per the business's own site, opened this Echo Park storefront in January 2022 as their first restaurant, growing out of a pandemic-era pop-up. The house style is Detroit pizza in its own defining terms — a pan richly oiled and cheesed to the edge for a crisp, cheesy bottom crust — dressed with Los Angeles-specific toppings (Santa Barbara pistachio pesto, Fresno chili, "yum yum" peppers) rather than a straight regional copy. The pastry programme has been a James Beard semifinalist.
