London holds the best pizzeria in the world and has no pizza of its own, and those two facts belong in the same sentence. Napoli on the Road took 50 Top Pizza's World title for 2026; Michele Pascarella is Neapolitan, and so is almost everything else here. Daniel Young, arriving in 2004, found a country with 'no inherent pizza culture or style', and what has happened since is import rather than invention - Neapolitan, then the New York slice, then Detroit and Chicago, each arriving as a named style with its own partisans. Two things push back. Yard Sale chose gas ovens over wood on the record, for delivery consistency rather than doctrine, which is a London answer to a London problem. And 081's founder markets his new project as 'Bri-talian'. Neither is a tradition yet. Both are worth watching, and a guide that asks which city has the best pizza has to be able to say that a city can be first on the strength of other people's traditions.

Napoli on the Road

Napoli on the Road was named the World's Best Pizzeria for 2026 by 50 Top Pizza, with the whole project credited to a single named maker, Michele Pascarella. Independent local reviewers across seven years — Andy Hayler in 2019, The Nudge in 2024, and two London writers in 2026 — describe a specific, evolving dough (OO flour blended with a higher-bran flour at Chiswick, rested 24–48 hours; Molino Denti flour fermented 36 hours for the newer Soho tasting menu) and named wood ovens at each site. It clears the specialist floor comfortably on all three counts.

50 Kalò di Ciro Salvo (London)

50 Kalò is the London outpost of Ciro Salvo's Naples pizzeria, and it carries his name and technique directly: 50 Top Pizza's own referenza page attributes the pizzeria to him and describes a style consistent with his Naples original — a hydrated, low-protein-flour dough. Andy Hayler's independent 2018 review confirms a proper wood-fired oven at 480–500°C and a well-executed, leopard-spotted base. It placed 23rd in 50 Top Pizza's World 2026 ranking and reached 4th in Europe in an earlier edition, making it the strongest and longest-standing UK entry after Napoli on the Road.

Pizza Pilgrims (Dean Street, Soho)

Pizza Pilgrims began as brothers Thom and James Elliot's street-food van on Berwick Street market after a research trip to Naples, and put down permanent roots at Dean Street in August 2013 — confirmed on their own site today ('Dean St will always hold a special place in our hearts'). Andy Hayler's 2013 review, written within weeks of opening, describes the founders' own hand-built wood oven and a 500°C, 50-second bake; the company's own site now describes a double-fermented dough baked at 500°C. It is one of the originators of London's street-food-to-pizzeria wave the Guardian's 2024 trend piece credits with the city's current pizza boom.

Yard Sale Pizza (Clapton)

Yard Sale started in 2014 when co-founder Nick Buckland began making pizza in his own garden in Hackney, and opened its first shop — in a former kebab shop on Lower Clapton Road — that May, confirmed on the company's own site today. What makes it worth a record on its own terms is a genuine, named departure from Neapolitan orthodoxy: co-founder Johnnie Tate told Restaurant Online the trio deliberately uses gas ovens over wood-fired ones for a more consistent cook suited to delivery, and 'specially engineered' dough with stronger flour to survive the trip. That is a London-specific answer to a London-specific problem (delivery), not an imported technique, and it is the clearest evidence found in this run that the city's pizza culture is doing something of its own rather than only reproducing Naples.

Homeslice (Neal's Yard)

Homeslice is one of the clearest cases in London of an imported (not Neapolitan) American pizza tradition: The Caterer's 2017 profile of founders Alan and Mark Wogan and Ry Jessup states plainly the pizzas are '20-inch numbers... stylistically owe far more to New York than Italy', a self-description the company repeats today. It began as Jessup's hand-built mobile wood-fired oven in 2011 and opened its first restaurant at 13 Neal's Yard in 2013, still trading at that address. The group entered administration in December 2024; the three restaurants, including Neal's Yard, continued trading through the process and remain listed as open in September 2026.

Rudy's Pizza Napoletana (Soho)

Rudy's is a Manchester-founded chain (Ancoats, 2015) that brought its Neapolitan programme to London for the first time with the Soho site in 2021, per SecretLDN's contemporary report. The company's own site is specific and checkable rather than vague marketing copy: dough is made fresh daily at each pizzeria with 00 Caputo flour, rested overnight then fermented a second time, and every oven is handmade by Stefano Ferrara in Naples. It is included as a momentum case — Guardian reporting (Jan 2024) on London's pizza boom credits Rudy's with 23% like-for-like Christmas sales growth — rather than for a named local pizzaiolo, which this run could not find for the Soho site specifically.

081 Pizzeria (Peckham)

081 Pizzeria is named for its founder, Naples-born pizzaiolo Andrea Asciuti, on both the business's own site and 50 Top Pizza's referenza page, which places it 43rd in the 50 Top Pizza Europa 2024 ranking. The Nudge, a named local food writer, reports Asciuti 'spent years working on the exact right recipe for his 72-hour fermented dough' and describes the bake (450°C, 90 seconds) in enough detail for the record to describe the dough with confidence. It began as a lockdown pop-up at Peckham Levels in 2021 before taking a permanent site on Peckham Rye, and Asciuti has since opened a second site in Shoreditch and, per a January 2026 report, a third concept (Connie's Pizza, at Queen's Road Peckham) explicitly marketed as 'London-style pizza, made by Italians' — the clearest self-described claim to a distinct London style found in this research run.

Bravi Ragazzi

Bravi Ragazzi is a Streatham pizzeria that was on the 2016 seed list and is confirmed still trading in 2026, now under pizzaiolo Ferdinando Cirillo. An Italian regional outlet (AgroToday) reported in July 2026 that Cirillo won the 23rd Caputo Cup World Pizza Championship (Naples, June 2026) in the Pizza di Stagione category, with named dough detail: an indirect dough with double fermentation totalling 30 hours (bulk then balled), made with Caputo 'Pizzeria' 00 flour. This is unusually precise, checkable dough evidence for a neighbourhood pizzeria and comfortably clears the specialist floor.
